Maybe we could invent an unusual rule? What is an unusual rule? Let's look at the current problem. We need a rule that is unusual. This rule will help us in establishing a guideline for doing something unusual. So, doing something unusual is the goal. What is unusual? It could be the opposite of usual. Do we do things in a usual fashion? Probably. If we look at what we usually do, and then did the opposite, would that be unusual? Probably. Is just doing the opposite, something we want to make a guideline? No. While doing the opposite could be unusual for us and constitute a different personal approach, it may not be the most innovative approach to unusualness. How about we simply say ... "Today I will be unusual?" "I'm usually usual, but it's more unique to be unusual." "Usually my thoughts are usual." These are fun to play around with. The one I thought was most effective was: "Make the usual, unusual!" This will be my unusual rule #1: "Make the usual, unusual!" This is another way of saying that a visual image maker's responsibility is to show something common in an uncommon manner. Make the usual ... unusual (unusual rule) You may like "Today I will be unusual," or one of the others better. You may want to make up your own personal unusual rule. No matter what approach you decide to adapt, you will find that you are more unusual by having an unusual mindset. If you give yourself permission to have an unusual mindset, you will find what you are looking for ... usually! F.U.N. Rule: Find Uniqueness Normal ... Celebrate your uniqueness! Remember: "It's unique to be unusual!" |
